14/04/2018:  Kildysart Ladies played Fergus Rovers’ second team on Friday evening in front of a large home crowd in a hugely enthralling match and won in the end by the narrowest of margins, Kildysart 2-15 to Fergus Rovers 5-5.  Having found themselves in arrears 4-1 to 0-2 with only 9 minutes on the clock, the Blues settled into the match and mounted a steadfast comeback, to take 2 wins from 2 matches in the Division 4 league.

Fergus Rovers got the dream start when Yvonne Collins and Laura Hanrahan both fisted the ball passed the Kildysart keeper inside the first 3 minutes.  Kildysart countered with points from Roisin Donnellan and captain Sinead Fox, but the Rovers were relentless and goals from Ava O’Malley and Eimear Stevens and a point from O’Malley gave the visitors a 4-1 to 0-2 head start with 21 minutes in the first half remaining.  Kildysart made some positional switches which steadied the ship and kick started their revival.  They went on the attack with scores from Fox (3), Catherine Pender (2), R. Donnellan, Caiti Donnellan, Ashley O’Brien and Amy Murphy to outscore their neighbours 9 points to 2.  Kildysart had a number of near misses, hitting the woodwork in total 7 times over the 60 minutes.  Good defensive work by the backs limited the Rovers to only two more points from O’Malley and Hanrahan.  Score at the first whistle, Kildysart 0-11, Fergus Rovers 4-3.

Super sub Kyla Foley made an impact as soon as she hit the field at the start of the second half winning ball up and down the field.  Kildysart started strong and quickly narrowed the gap to two before Roisin Donnellan hit the net to bring the home side in front for the first time at the 36th minute.  The match seesawed from here on and the Rovers were in front by two after a goal from Bernadette Kelly, Kildysart 1-14, Fergus Rovers 5-4 with 11 minutes remaining on the clock.  Catherine Pender narrowed the gap to one before Roisin Donnellan’s second goal put Kildysart up by two in the 58th minute.  A nail biting finish ensued with the Rovers on the “prowl” for the winning goal but the woodwork came into play again, this time denying Hanrahan’s effort.  A late point from Emma Keating left the minimum between the sides.  Final Score: Kildysart 2-15, Fergus Rovers 5-5.  Congratulations to both team on a very sporting and exciting match.
