07/05/2012: I suppose if you're neutral, you'd say a draw was a fair result in the Division 3 U16 County Final played this evening between the amalgamation of Kildysart and Coolmeen and Clooney/Quin.   But a draw doesn't seem a fitting end to all the effort and heart that our boys put into the match.

Points from Ben Cleary and Sean Wallace gave Kil/Cool an early lead and Clooney/Quin got their first score from a 45' after Adam Carrig made the first of his 3 crucial goal saves and the ball went wide.  Six minutes later Adam made a diving save to deny them another goal.  In the 19th minute Kil/Cool extended their lead with 2 more points - 1 each from Mark Meaney and Ben Cleary.  Rory McMahon was outstanding in the backs and disrupted a lot of Clooney/Quin play.  Clooney/Quin pointed a free and then had their third goal denied them by Adam Carrig.  Cian Murphy pointed and Ben finished off the half with a free to leave Kil/Cool up at the break 6 points to 3.

A shower of rain fell at half time but stopped about 10 minutes in.  Cian Murphy opened up the half with a point and Clooney/Quin countered with another 5 minutes later.  Cian Murphy scored another point at 12 minutes in and this was to be the last point for Kil/Cool.  At the 14th minute Clooney/Quin's free fell short and wasn't cleared and resulted in a goal, which narrowed the lead to 1 point.  Another Clooney/Quin free in the 24th minute turned out to be the last score of the match to bring the sides level at 08 points to 01 05.  Alan Normoyle was impressive in the backs, Clooney/Quin had many wides in the 2nd half and Kil/Cool weren't able to get that evasive point in the remaining minutes means both sides will have to do it all over again. Best for Kil/Cool: Rory McMahon, Adam Carrig, Cian Murphy.
