11/04/2018:  The girls from St John Bosco Community College were delighted for the opportunity for a second bite at the cherry when they found themselves in their second consecutive Munster Senior E Final against Gaelcholaiste Chiarraí, Tralee. They were determined not to leave the silverware behind after suffering a heartbreaking 1 point defeat to the Kerry outfit last year.  The match took place today at Mannix Community College, Charleville and this time the Kildysart school left nothing behind and were comprehensive winners 2-21 to 1.6.

Bosco’s grit and determination was evident from the outset and the team worked together to go on the offensive.  The first half saw 8 different scorers including a long run by halfback Sinead Kelly which resulted in a point for the Green and Whites.  Amy Murphy, Kyla Foley and player of the match, Sarah McCann controlled the midfield and scored 1-7 between them before the interval.  Amy Murphy scored a fortuitous goal when a free fell short and lobbed over the Tralee goalie’s head.  The full forward line of Bianca Tully, Roisin Donnellan and Eimear Stevens were on target with 6 points in the first half.  Goalie Emma Byrne was called upon to make 2 saves and was ably assisted by the dogged full-back line of Jasmine McGrath, Chloe Sheehan and Susan Casey.  Wing forwards Molly McCarthy and Sinead McCann fought tirelessly and ensured the ball stayed in the Kerry half, with Sinead McCann popping over the last score of the half, Bosco 1-11, Gaelcholaiste 0-4.

Second half substitute Katie Donnellan’s first touch resulted in a point for Bosco and she slotted one past the ‘keeper 5 minutes later, when Amy Murphy found her unmarked by the square.  Heading into the last quarter, Bosco were ahead 2-17 to 0-5 but were wary of complacency as last year a similar sized lead evaporated in front of their eyes.  This time there was no letting up.  Wing backs Willow Swire and Ailish Kenny were relentless in their pursuit of ball and good defensive work by Ailish Kenny resulted in another Amy Murphy point.  Tralee did not give up and were rewarded with a goal at the 28th minute.  But the depth of the Bosco bench meant that they had fresh legs to see out the match.  Final Score:  St John Bosco Community College, Kildysart, County Clare: 2-21, Gaelcholaiste Chiarraí, Tralee, Kerry: 1-6.  St. John Bosco has achieved the double so far this year with their ladies and men’s teams winning Munster finals and they are hopeful the Ladies Junior Team can bring home the third trophy of the year.
